mysore the name comes from the demon MAHISHASUR. this place used to be his home... so it was known as mahisur.. which gradually got a stylish makover and became popular as mysore...
the state of karnataka was known as state fo mysore and mysore city used to be its capital
it was ruled by wadyar kingdom and chamraja wadiyar was the last ruler...later government took over the control... but son of his majesty is still treated as the king and resides in one of the palace.
the demon mahishasur was killed by devi chamunda... to celebrate her triumph and divinity a temple known as CHAMUNDESHWARI TEMPLE is situated here on a hill top...this hill is know as chamundi hill.
if u are going mysore for the first time then i must suggest take a KSTDC package tour... it gives u an insight of all the places later u can select which places u like the most and plan a trip according to you...
dont buy any thing on the way like sandal wood or wood work toys etc...and dont even buy silk from any show rooms
if u want to buy some thing just go to cauvery handloom emporium in the mysore palace next to the place where u submitt shoes...its government shop and quality is assured...
the tour guide will make u stop at wood toy emporium and silk emporiums but dont buy there as he gets commison from those shops for hurling in tourists.....
if i plan a trip to mysore the places of my intrest would be in following order..
